"It's the sign of the times"

Well it was bound to happen eventually ...
I'm sick, along with everyone else and their mother. Wahoo!
Anyway, despite that, we had a decent week!
Friday night we were supposed to go on exchanges with some of our sister missionaries, but neither of us felt good about it. We just felt like we couldn't do it for whatever reason, so we didn't. And I'm really glad we listened to that prompting (for multiple reasons)
That night, we felt like lost puppies. We couldn't decide where we needed to be, and we felt discouraged that we couldn't do exchanges. The only thought that came to Sister Larson's mind was to go to our friend Angie's apartment complex. We got out of the car and I'm like "so what's our plan?" We walk over to Angie's door, and just stand there. For like 5 minutes we both just stand there, saying nothing. Finally, we're like ok, what are we doing? This is stupid. So we start walking away, and find ourselves just roaming back to our same spot. Multiple times this happens. We both just felt planted and like we couldn't leave that spot. So in our dresses, we sat on the sidewalk, in the cold, and started texting people for like 30 minutes. And then the miracle came.
You see, Angie has been SO busy that lessons with her have been few and far between. That night, as we sat on the steps, Angie came outside, followed by her boyfriend. We casually played it off like we hadn't been waiting for them and ending up having a super awesome spirit-filled lesson with them right outside Angie's apartment. It was such a strong reminder to me that God is aware of his children, and he never wants anyone to go too long without feeling the spirit.
And the second reason I was grateful for our first prompting to not go on exchanges? The next morning Sister Larson woke up with no voice, no energy, and a cough. Shortly followed by me. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and had we been on exchanges, we would've put a set of our poor sisters in quarantine... again. Yeah it really is a "sign of the times" (thank you Harry Styles for my song lyric title this week) that we are sick, but at least we didn't expose anyone else.
God is good, and He is in the details. I'm amazed each and every day at the miracles that come just by following a simple thought. It really is true that the spirit speaks in a still small voice, and if we aren't listening, we will miss it. We never will regret doing something good, so why not just act on the thought?
So if today someone has come to your mind, or you thought of something you should do for someone else, act on that thought! I promise you will see miracles and God's hand in your life in the most simple of ways.
"By small and simple things are great things brought to pass."
I'm small, and I'm simple. I'm the first to admit that. But I've seen more miracles in the past year than I've seen in my entire life. God is just WAITING to bless his children. I feel blessed each night as I go to bed, knowing this is the most important thing I can be doing with my life right now. It isn't easy and isn't always glamorous, but it is so worth it. I can't even imagine what my life would be like without the New Mexico, Albuquerque mission, and the people I have met who have changed me.
Ultimately, I thank my Savior, who has changed me the most. More than anything, I just hope that my work here has made my Savior proud of me, and that the people I meet can feel their Jesus' love through me.
What more could I ask for?
Don't forget that Jesus loves you,
Sister Wallace
