"Leave what's heavy behind"

Let's talk about death.

This week, my thoughts have been pretty myopic. I've felt discouraged, exhausted, and unmotivated. All I could see were all the small moments of things going wrong and my life in tunnel vision.

But the recent deaths of two people I've grown to love on my mission shattered all those thoughts.

Yesterday I just felt heavy. As I prayed and sat in church needing some peace, some lyrics came to my mind. But you see I've been a missionary for too long now and could only remember part of them. I had Katie send me the rest today and I've decided it's a song from Jesus (even if that's not what the author intended - and in case you're wondering, this song is from a group called Birdtalker and the song is called Heavy.)

"I want to share your sadness

I want to share your sin

I want to bleed your blood

And I want to be let in

If your face is down

Take a look around

Do your fingers move?

Do your lungs inflate?

Are you tired, are you weary

Of the hidden hate you you've been holding?

And did you lose that love?

Or have you never had it?

Are you feeling sad cause you did a bad thing?

Leave what's heavy

What's heavy behind.

Leave what's heavy

What's heavy behind."

Jesus wants us to feel relief from the heaviness of life. He wants to take the burden. I learned a lot about life this week. If you want to feel the good and the love, you have to be willing to feel the heartache and sorrow. It's just part of life. Sometimes I look around and feel like everything is ending, and it feels so hard. But this quote brings me comfort:

"In light of what we know about our eternal destiny, is it any wonder that whenever we face the bitter endings of life, they seem unacceptable to us? There seems to be something inside of us that resists endings.

Why is this? Because we are made of the stuff of eternity. We are eternal beings, children of the Almighty God, whose name is Endless and who promises eternal blessings without number. Endings are not our destiny. They are merely interruptions—temporary pauses that one day will seem small compared to the eternal joy awaiting the faithful. There are no true endings, only everlasting beginnings."

I'm so grateful that because of Jesus I can start again and again and again. He makes everything worth it. I get to see all these people again someday, because of Jesus.

Don't forget that Jesus loves you,

Sister Wallace
