This week was pretty amazing!
Well ... except I chomped down on my cheek and it bled and really hurt.
But I'm ok. Also, I made our own chipotle bowls and they were pretty good. We still caved and got actual Chipotle this week... we have a problem.
I'm also turning over a new leaf and now till the end of my mission, I'm trying to spend less money. So please pray for my Chipotle withdrawals. Donations would also be acceptable.
Haha jk jk.
Tuesday we woke up to snow, and today (3/25/22) we've got full sun and a high of 80. Life is good my friends.
This week, I think I finally realized why I'm actually here. Obviously there's been a lot of moments when I knew I needed to be here, but this week put so much into perspective for me.
Just like last week, we taught the plan of salvation pretty much all day every day. A couple moments in particular stick out in my mind for the people we taught:
Monique: Back in 2017 the missionaries met Monique in some random parking lot. She's had little touches of the spirit since then, but we've been able to finally teach her about how the gospel has been restored. Ever since, she has been reading the Book of Mormon pretty much everyday. We showed her the plan of salvation and she just cried. Turns out that recently she and her husband have been crying together at the possibility of losing their kids one day. At the end of the lesson, we asked her what she would do to live with her family forever. She said "anything," with tears in her eyes.
Maryrose & Mariah: These girls are actually homeless right now. But through it all, they just rely on God, no matter how tough it gets. As we spoke, everything else was still and silent. We laid out our little diagram on the bed of our truck as we sat in camp chairs at 8 pm. The spirit was undeniable. They had questions upon questions, desperately wanting to know the answers. And I think they found some.
This showed me that no matter how different our circumstances are, we desperately want to know our purpose and where we came from and where we are going.
And then at the end of everything this week, we spent Saturday morning in the temple. It was such a special moment. Modesta has been a member of the church all her life, but at some point stopped attending. But a little over a year ago, she decided to come back, and she brought her husband, Mike, with her. Mike was baptized and ever since has shared the light of Jesus Christ.
On Saturday, they both were able to go to the temple to make promises with God and receive gifts of power and light. It was amazing. Then, they were sealed together for time and all eternity. I sat in their sealing, covered in chills, as I realized this is the point of it all: connecting families for eternity. I realized I'm a part of something much bigger than myself, and the work I'm doing is to help all of God's children return to live with him one day. Nothing is more humbling than that, and no work is more important.
Jesus lives and he loves us. Because of him, there is hope.
Don't forget that Jesus loves you,
Sister Wallace
